Dean, Faculty of Engineering

HISTORY:

The Faculty of Engineering was one of the pioneering faculties when the university was established 1980. It was created to address the need for trained engineers in various fields to support the region's industrial and infrastructural growth. At its inception, the Faculty of Engineering offered programs in several core engineering disciplines designed to provide a strong foundation in engineering principles and practical skills. It started with five departments: Civil Engineering (CVE), Electrical Electronic Engineering (EEE), Chemical Engineering (CHE), Mechanical Production Engineering (MPE) and Metallurgical Materials Engineering (MME). Departments of Computer Engineering (CEE) and Agricultural and Bio-resources Engineering (ABE) were established in the later years. On the approval of the NUC for the establishment of Mechatronic Engineering, the Faculty registered its first candidates in that Department. The establishment of Bio-Medical Engineering is underway.

In recent years, the faculty has focused on modernizing its curriculum and infrastructure to align with global standards. This includes upgrading laboratories, incorporating new technologies into teaching, and fostering industry partnerships for practical experience. The Faculty of Engineering has also emphasized research and innovation, encouraging both faculty members and students to engage in research activities that contribute to technological advancement and solve real-world problems. As way of achieving the above, the current University Management, under the dynamic leadership of Prof Michaels Aloysius Okolie, is working tirelessly to make the faculty a Centre of Excellence. Throughout the South Eastern zone of Nigeria and beyond, the faculty laboratories nag the workshops stand to be among the most equipped.

Faculty of Engineering, ESUT, has made significant contributions to the local and national economy by producing well-trained engineers who have gone on to excel in various sectors, including construction, manufacturing, technology, and more.

MISSION/VISION:

ESUT Faculty of Engineering is established to develop and operate in line with the University’s mission and vision goals “To be premier university in Africa in capacity development that promotes services to the society through quality teaching, research and community service”.
