HISTORY OF FACULTY OF EDUCATION (1985-2024)
The Enugu State University of Science and Technology is thelegal successor of the former Anambra State University ofScience and Technology (ASUTECH) founded in 1980, all ofwhose "home-based" assets and liabilities she lawfullyinherited. "Home" in this regard means of course,Enugu State. In 1985. the then "president" (lately, designated "Vice-Chancellor")ofASUTECH,Professor C.A Onwumechili took ahistoric step that transformed ASUTECH from a single-discipline University of Technology into a conventional multi-discipline University. He did so by causing the creation of threenew non technology faculties in the University: Education,Lawand Management Sciences. Consequently, he appointedthefounding Deans for the new faculties as follows-Prof.M.O.Nduanya (Education); Prof. C. N. Okeke (Law); and Mr.Okereke Ani(Management Sciences).

OBJECTIVES OFTHE FACULTY OF EDUCATION
The founding Dean, Prof M. O. Nduanya, articulated for theFaculty of Education the following three objectives, whichremain to this day the principal objectives of the ESUT FacultyofEducation.
1. To produce professionally qualified graduate teachers toman the state educational institutions and serve in othercapacities in the education system.
2. To co-operate with the institute of education in up-gradingthe quality of serving teachers through the Sand-wichprogramme.
3. To provide research and higher degree faculties andprogrammes both for the study and for the solution of thestate and the country's educational problems,as well as forthe production of higher level man-power needs of thetertiary institutions and educational services.

DIRECTORATE OF EDUCATION PROGRAMME, 1986
As a result ASUTECH'S internal politics, the Faculty ofEducation was temporally dislocated, but constituted into aDirectorate of Education programme in 1986. Prof. Nduanyawas appointed the Director of that directorate. However, whenthe faculty was eventually restored, his designation was changedto Dean, which he occupied till 1988. It could then be said thatProf.M.O.Nduanya served as the founding Dean of the Facultyfrom 1985 to 1988. He introduced in the faculty a multifacetedSandwich Programme (in the UNN tradition). This programmesoon became the most viable source of generating interalrevenue(IGR)for the University.

TRANSFER TO AKWA CAMPUS (1989)AND CREATIONOFSTATE(1991)
In 1989 the FacultyofFducation, along with the Faculty of Law
were transferred to the then Akwa Campus of ASUTECH. In1991,following the creation of new states in Nigeria,EnuguState was created and Enugu became the Capital, whileAnambraState was still retained with the capital as Awka.Consequently, the Awka Campus of ASUTECH was in 1991,constituted by thenew Anambra State Government into the state's-"AnambraState University of Science and Technology"(ASUTECH)butlater renamed, Nnamdi Azikiwe University,Akwa commonlyreferred to as "Un hiizik".The Faculty of Education with itsSandwich Programme transferred from Enugu to Awka in 1989still remain the Faculty of Education Unizik Akwa. With thecreation of States in 1991, the Enugu State Governmentconstituted the Enugu and Abakiliki Campuses of ASUTECHinto Enugu State University of Science and Technology,(ESUTECH)in 1991.

ESUT FACULTY OF EDUCATION, (1991),ANDINSTITUTE OF EDUCATION(1991)
With the constitution of Enugu State University of Science andTechnology a new Faculty of Education and Institute ofEducation was created for the University and Prof. M. O.Nduanya was once more called upon to oversee the two sectionsand thus acted as both the Dean of the Faculty and Director of theInstitute of Education for the University. In 1992 the two sectionswere separated as different units and headed differently.Prof.M.O.Nduanya became the Director of the Institute from 1992 to1994 while Prof.A.S Onyehalu became the Dean of the Facultyof Education from 1992 to 1996.It may be necessary to peint outthat he cordial relationship which he created between the twounits still exist till date.
