Welcome Address
I heartily welcome you to the Faculty of Clinical Medicine, ESUT College of Medicine(ESUCOM), Enugu State University of Science and Technology(ESUT) Enugu.
The faculty currently undertake clinical programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students, leading to the award of bachelor of Medicine, bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and doctor of philosophy (PhD) degrees for the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes respectively.
Also there are robust research activities ongoinging the various departments and specialties in the faculty. These include both intra and inter faculty corroborative studies.
These programmes are well coordinated by well focused and dedicated lecturers. The teaching includes lectures (didactic and non didactic), practicals, clinics, ward rounds, Community (rural and urban) postings etc. The students usually have both formative and summative assessments before the award of the degrees. The modalities of the assessments include long and short essays, objective, practicals, objective structured clinical and picture examinations (OSCE & OSPE), projects and thesis. The faculty conducts two professional examinations.
The departments in the faculty include Departments of Community Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Surgery, Psychiatry, Otorhinolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia, Radiology and Accident & Emergency.
The faculty is located in the main administrative complex of the college and headed by the Dean and associate dean. The departments are headed by heads of department. There 4 administrative staff including a faculty officer.
The faculty welcomes corroboration and partnership with individuals, institutions, industries etc. Also academic institution exchange programmes are welcomed.

HISTORY OF THE FAULTY OF CLINICAL MEDICINE
The College of Medicine, Enugu State University of Science and Technology had run as a single Faculty until 2014 during the tenure of Prof. Onyeji Cyprian as the Vice-Chancellor and Prof. A.O.C. Akpa as the Provost, when the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences was created.
Therefrom, the two Faculties were created with Dr Orjioke CJG as the Dean of Faculty of Clinical Medicine and Prof. Chike Anibeze as the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.
In 2020, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences was further created from the faculty during the tenure of Professor Charles Eze and Professor Frank Ezugwu as the acting Vice Chancellor and Provost of the University and College respectively with Professor Ohayi Robsam as the pioneer Dean.
The Faculty of Clinical Medicine admits students into the 3rd MBBS professional Programme with the requirements as follows:
(1) Must have met the University’s admission standards through JAMB and/University’s Screening programme.
(2) Must have passed the subjects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics at ‘A’ levels or a first degree in any course in the Biological Sciences ,Basic Medical Sciences or Health Sciences with at least second class upper division.
(3) Must have completed the 18 months intensive training by the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences and passed the three (3) subjects of Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology in addition to the General Studies (2nd Professional Examinations)
(4) Must have completed 12 months of training in faculty of basic clinical sciences and passed the 3rd professional MBBS examination
(5) No student is allowed to transfer into the Faculty from other Institutions orFaculties.
The curriculum is structured in such a way that the graduates are prepared to meet the medical needs of the local population in Nigeria as well as be able to practice anywhere else and pursue post-graduate training locally or abroad with a lot of emphasis on Clinical exposure. The graduate should be able to use standard and clinical methods for the assessment of patients, be able to analyze and interpret available data and conditions and use them to institute appropriate management or referral.
The past Deans of the faculty include Professors Asogwa SE, Ugochukwu AI, Nwafor DC, Orjioke CJG, Ezugwu FU and Okafor II. The current Dean is Professor Okafor UH.
The past associate Deans were Dr. Ani C, Professor Arinze-Onyia S and Okafor UH.
