The Vice Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology(ESUT), Prof Aloysius Michael Okolie, has said that the management of the university under his watch is working relentlessly to strengthen its capacity as such that it will become a virile, competitive and innovative citadel of learning that will serve as a reference point to the global international community.
Prof. Okolie who assumed duty as the new Vice Chancellor of ESUT on April 12,this year gave this assurance while briefing news men on the activities to mark the 18th convocation of the university,scheduled on Thursday,November 24 and Friday,November 25.
He said that the ESUT management will live up to his promise of transforming ESUT to global standard when he assumed office,stating the management is ever commiued to achieving this arduous task and elevating ESUT to a centre of excellence.
His words,’As a colliary of the above. the rebranding of our dear university is targeted at making ESUT more competitive,viable and a first choice university in Africa. To attain this lofty goal. the management set to reactivate and entrench some of the celebrated and true academic cultures for which top universities are known for”.
According to him,some of the steps the management are taking to rebrand ESUT includes reward for excellence,strengthening the capacity of quality assurance and servicom unit, strict monitoring and enhancement of discipline,On going digitalization of students records with a view to fast tracking the processing of transcripts and elimination of all corrupt practices associated with the process.
He disclosed that within the short period of his stay. the management was able to replace all seats at Julius Onah auditorium, review all ESUT laws to be in tandem with global standards, strategies on how to complete al abandoned TETFUND projects and migration from issuance of statement of results to certificates.
The ESUT Vice chancellor announced grand plan of the university to direct it,s investment into Agriculture of which two thousand palm seedlings which will served as raw materials for large scale production of palm oil has been planted.
He disclosed the university has produced a specie of cassava with vitamin A content while piggery, Snail farming, poultery farming among others, are all on course, as a measure of raising internal generated revenue of ESUT and increasing food abundance in Enugu state,
The 18th Convocation of the university which is coming up six years after the 17th convocation was held will involve a total of 29,240 graduands who graduated from ESUT 2016 and 2021.
Prof. Okolie assured that he has put all machinery in motion that will ensure convocation ceremony of ESUT holds annually henceforth and that issuance of certificates are obtained easily on graduation,so as to close the era of issuance of statement of results.
